New Nintendo 3DS minor firmware update now available

A new update is now available for Nintendo 3DS owners. The firmware has been upgraded from 4.0.0-7 to 4.1.0-8. The update is a quick and easy installation, taking just around 10 seconds to install. At first glance, it doesn’t appear to be too significant. One apparent small change is that a system update can be applied without having to enter a pin if parental controls are enabled.

We’ll keep you posted in case some details about what the update really does arise.

Nintendo to cease production of Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS in Japan

Nintendo has revealed via its official Japanese website that it plans to discontinue manufacturing the original Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS console. On the Nintendo 3DS hardware page the color is listed as “scheduled to end production shortly”. No reason has been given regarding the decision.

Inmediately after this annoucement was posted on Nintendo’s Japanese website, people started wondering if this decision was going to be effective worldwide. So, both Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe were asked if they would cease production of the Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS and their answer for both cases was: “We have nothing to announce about the Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS in our territory at this time”.

Why do you think Nintendo would cease production of the Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS in Japan? Let us know in the comments.

Nintendo teases big third party announcements for the Nintendo 3DS at this year’s E3

Nintendo’s global president, Mr. Satoru Iwata has hinted to investors that Western third-party developers are back onboard with the Nintendo 3DS.  Iwata admitted that third-party developers were hesitant to develop for the Nintendo 3DS due to poor sales, but since the system’s sales have now considerably increased worldwide, they’re now back onboard. Mr. Iwata also teased that we should see a “richer” software lineup for the Nintendo 3DS at E3, which takes place next month. Here’s the full quote from Mr. Iwata:

“As for the Nintendo 3DS, there may appear to be fewer commitments from the U.S. and the European software publishers than those of their Japanese counterparts. This is due to the different timing (between Japan and overseas) when they noticed that the Nintendo 3DS would surely expand widely into their markets and, thus, the different timing when they started the actual development of the Nintendo 3DS software. You will also notice a change in this situation when a richer Nintendo 3DS software lineup in the overseas markets is announced around the time of the E3 show. In Japan, we have this solid feeling that the Japanese publishers will continuously support the Nintendo 3DS. Accordingly, I have no pessimistic view on the Nintendo 3DS software lineup.”
