Nintendo announces brand new Mario game for Nintendo 3DS

During Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, the company’s global president Satoru Iwata has told investors that they are hard at work developing a brand new side-scrolling Mario title for the Nintendo 3DS. Iwata claims that the game is a “key title” for the Nintendo 3DS and will be released in the next fiscal year, that is at some point between March 2012 and April 2013.

Iwata talks Mario 3DS

Now this would be awesome!

President of Nintendo of Japan, Satoru Iwata, has recently stated that Nintendo are working on some experiments which feature Mario running into the screen and striking blocks that are floating in the air. One thing I’m really hoping for is an augmented reality level in a Mario 3DS game, I personally think that it would be awesome.

More Mario 3DS talk and we need more games like Luigis Mansion says Konno

The first quotation comes from Yoshio Koizumi, he’s worked on quite alot of 3D Mario platformer games.

“I’ve been making 3D Mario games up to now, and it’s been difficult to grab or ride on objects floating in midair with these sorts of games since the beginning. But if the Nintendo 3DS system can produce a sense of distance that can be easily understood at a glance, I feel I’ll be able to more confidently create the tense stages that require you to jump from platform to platform in midair without falling. There’s still a whole range of things I’ll be able to do with Mario games in the future.”

And Hideki Konno, the guy who is reponsible for the 3DS states that they should be more games like Luigis Mansion. He wants to “widen” the appeal of surrounding characters, and I see his point. Instead of games not only focussing on Mario, maybe we could see some Wario action? Yes please!

“In order for the Mario brand to reach as many people as possible, I’d like to widen the new appeal of each surrounding characters, like what was done with Luigi’s Mansion for example. I’d like to create various genres by linking Mario, Luigi, and other characters to them.”

Miyamoto talks more Mario on 3DS

We’ve recently got a confirmation of a Mario game being worked on,which will be for Nintendo’s newest handheld system, the 3DS.

In an interview with USA Today, Miyamoto confirms that the said Mario game will be using the analog stick, meaning it’ll be the first ever handheld Mario game to ever use an analog stick. He states that it’s going to be easier to understand the distance because of the 3D display. Meaning that you may not be missing coins, mushrooms or any other hard to reach items when you will be playing Mario game on 3DS.

Of course, we are working on a Mario product for the Nintendo 3DS, I can tell you that. One of the things we have looked at, you know when you are in a 3D world but on a 2D screen it is difficult sometimes to tell distance, whether an object you are looking at is in the foreground, in the background, is the object above you? Sometimes it’s a little bit harder. So it’s going to be really exciting for us to make that easier for the player to understand using the Nintendo 3DS technology. And for the first time ever Mario will be on a handheld system with an analog stick for controls. That’s new.
